I don’t understand when people complain about “likespamming.” If I see the same person 20 times in a row in my notifs, even if they don’t reblog anything or follow me, I’m excited that they came to my gay little museum and had a good time! That’s literally what it’s for!!

It's a tiktok thing. Supposedly, tiktok knocks you down in the algorithm if people go through and like a bunch of your videos at once.

But first of all, the Tiktok algorithm is insane and constantly changing so who gives AF. And secondly, this isn't TikTok and WE DON'T HAVE AN ALGORITHM.

If someone is 'spamliking' on Tumblr, that likely means that they've actually gone to your blog and are now enjoying everything you post. AND THAT'S GREAT.

So leave your TT trauma at the door and enjoy our beautiful hellscape with as much spamliking as your heart desires.

My instant reaction when I see spamliking is "!!!!! FRIEND"

There is functionally no difference between doing something nice because you actually care and doing something nice because it makes you feel good or because you think you're obligated to.

A charity does not care if you're only donating because your religion says you should; either way, your money is still going to help people. That little old lady next door does not care if you only help her with gardening because being thanked makes you feel good, it's just nice to have some extra hands.

"Fake it til you make it," is a phrase for a reason but it's also okay if you NEVER make it, if you never feel the "correct" emotions behind your actions. Your thoughts and feelings matter considerably less than the impact your actions have on other people.

It's like that story about the man who was going to donate to the hospital so he could get his name on a plaque, then realizes his motives were self-aggrandizing and spiralled on whether he should donate at all. At last he asked his rabbi, who said. "The sick in the hospital don't care if you just did it to puff yourself up. Don't shy away from doing the good thing just because you cannot do it perfectly!"

What an utterly cruel thing to tag this post with while completely missing the point. This post was about reassuring people with low and non-existent empathy that they are capable of being kind and doing good, even when they aren't feeling the "right" emotions.

If someone does good for gratitude, as opposed to genuine care, that's better than doing nothing out of apathy or a belief that nothing good you do matters because your motivation is selfish.

if you are getting the "adblock isn't allowed on youtube" warning

  1. ensure that you're using firefox and ublock origin (yes, i'm being serious. chrome and every other browser based on it (if you don't know if your browser's based on it it probably is) isn't going to work forever. you're trying to block ads from a google site on a google browser)
  2. click on the ublock origin icon, go to the settings gears, then go to "filter lists" and click "purge all caches" and then "update now"

if it's still not working, check the pinned post here about youtube for more info on what you should be doing

this is in the subreddit link but this might be tripping up a lot of people so i want to add that if you have the popular extension "Enhancer for YouTube" check its settings and turn off its adblock

Here's uBlock Origin's official guide to bypassing youtube's anti-adblock popups, updated weekly. Please share widely. Don't reward google for their predatory anti-consumer bullshit

To summarize: 1. Get uBlock Origin and make sure it's updated to the latest version. 2. Click on the gear icon to get to the dashboard, go to "Filter lists", and make sure that "uBlock filters - Quick fixes" is up to date

Repeat those steps any time you get another popup (google and uBlock are having an arms race right now so it might stop working at any moment), and if you have any more problems, read the reddit thread for troubleshooting advice
